Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Please join us for Engaged Spirituality on Sunday March 21 from 10:30 AM – Noon PST on Zoom to discuss Chapter 4 “Prayer" of Disciplines of the Spirit by Howard Thurman. Here is an outline for that discussion:

A. What is Prayer?

B. Jesus and Prayer

C. In reflecting on prayer, I ask myself

D. God’s Agenda or Working Paper

E. (Clearing the Way for Prayer)

F. Intercessory Prayer

G. G. (Prayer) may be an overflowing of utter praise, adoration, and celebration.

H. (Prayer) may be an overflowing of thanksgiving – the overflowing of the heart as an act of grace toward God.

I. (Prayer) regarding the sense of sin, of unworthiness, that often takes on a dramatic character in the experience of God

J. Conclusion

I have attached notes on “Prayer” that combine the text from the book as well as Thurman’s recordings on “Prayer” from Boston University’s Howard Thurman Listening Room.

Take care,

Eileen
